LAND OF VOLCANOES (The ring of fire):

The expedition through the Land of Fire. In this special tour you will experience 3 of the most iconic volcanoes in Central America. A guided hike to the top of Acatenango volcano, which will take you up to 13,00ft /4000m high, above the clouds, and with the second most active volcano just in front, you will experience a show like no other, truly unique in this world. After, we will come down to start our way to the black volcanic sand beaches of the Pacific ocean where we will take a tour through the mangroves, full of beautiful birds and turtles. Our final destination will be Pacaya volcano, the most active volcano in Guatemala, with the opportunity to see the lava rivers and the frozen magma which make this location so special. Get ready to have an experience like no other that you will only find in Guatemala, the heart of the Mayan Civilization, a land of fire.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1: Welcome to Guatemala

Welcome to Guatemala; the heart of the mayan world and transfer to Antigua:

Welcome by our team at the Aurora International Airport (GUA) and private transportation (at any time) to the beautiful and colonial city in ruins of La Antigua Guatemala (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), a magical city full of charm and probably the most visited town in the country.  

Free time to explore (try to arrive before 5pm in order to enjoy the sunset in Antigua with tea, coffee or drinks), rest and to prepare ourselves for our upcoming transformative journey. Overnight in a comfortable Hotel in Antigua.

Meals: None.

Lodging: Hotel (Antigua).

Activities: Wellcome transfer and sightseeing.

Day 2: Antigua - Acatenango volcano

Antigua, home to the first capital of Central America and an UNESCO protected site due to its cultural heritage and history, will be the starting point for this expedition. Having an early rise and breakfast, we will head on our way to Acatenango volcano, the start of this great volcano adventure!

Starting our way in La Soledad, we will start to walk our way up the volcano, as we start ascending  the volcano, you will be able to notice the change in the climate first going from hot, then to tropical humid setting, for then arriving at the top part, a cold climate with amazing views. The 6h hike will surely give you a good workout so when we arrive at camp you can enjoy the view together with a mountain cooked delicious meal made to recover you from all the hard effort. Hopefully we will see some of the eruptions before going to bed and resting for the next day.

Day 3: Acatenango Volcano - El Paredon Beach

Waking up early, we will commence our hike to summit Acatenango volcano, arriving at the top, right by sunrise. We will be rewarded with a beautiful sight of a great part of Guatemala, if it is clear we will be having the view at a chain of 7 volcanoes, Lake Atitlan, and the Pacific Coast. You will be on top of the 3rd highest volcano in Central America and you will enjoy a warm and delicious breakfast there as well.

After we have finished appreciating the view, we will come down and then we will start our way down the volcano. Once down, we will enjoy lunch and now we will be on the way to the beach. You can have a nap in the car if you like or enjoy the 2h road to our next destination, El Paredon!

El Paredon, here we will dedicate the rest of the day to relax, get in the sea, soak up some sun and have a delicious dinner to recover from the past day. Early sleep and the sound of waves will make us rest like never before in these beautiful black sand beaches of the Pacific coast.

Lodging: Kuautemayan campground.

Day 4: Manglar - Pacaya Active Volcano

Rising up early, we will have a fresh breakfast and get ready for our adventure into the manglar of the Pacific coast. A tour that will take us around 4h to get really into the insides and the untouched nature of this place. Navigating through the canals we will be able to see wildlife and nature in a very specific and beautiful environment.

Once back at the starting point, lunch will be waiting for us and the vehicles ready to transport us to the next location, Volcan de Pacaya! Two hours and a half on the road will take us to the most active volcano in Central America. Having arrived, a short 4x4 drive through the frozen lava will take us to the ground where our campsite will be. We will have some free time to explore the area and if we are lucky enough we will be able to see the lava rivers.

Dinner will be served and as the night comes in we will start to enjoy the night at one of the best places in Guatemala for stargazing, we will take out the portable telescope, and let the show begin. Fire, magma and a sky filled with stars will be your companions for this last evening through the volcanoes of Guatemala, the heart of the Mayan world and the belt of fire.

Activities: Off-roading, stargazing.

Day 5: Pacaya Active Volcano & Our Goodbye Dinner

On this last day after we have had a full breakfast, we will manage the summit Volcan Pacaya, a short 2h hike, before we are ready to head back to beautiful Antigua Guatemala. Where you will have a free afternoon to explore Antigua and then at 7:00pm meet up for a special goodbye dinner. If you feel like, after we will take a little tour through the most iconic bars of Antigua which give this town it's vibrant multicultural vibe. Accommodation in a comfortable hotel in Antigua.

Lodging: Hotel in Antigua.

Activities: Hiking, sightseeing, special goodbye dinner.

Day 6: Guatemala city airport

Final transfer to Guatemala city airport, goodbye & the end of our services:

Morning breakfast and our final transfer to the Airport to be there 3 hours before our departure time. Goodbye from our team and until the next time !
