On this Guided Group Trip, you will hike around the stunning Mt. Blanc Range, hiking as close as possible to this legendary alpine giant without actually climbing. Every day, enjoy so many new discoveries as you explore the different sides, cultures, and landscapes of the range: first through France, and then Italy and Switzerland. The well-marked trails and circuits are trade and communications that have been used, in some cases, since Antiquity. This is hands down one of the world’s major and most classic multi-day mountain hikes!

Overview: 4 to 5 hours of hiking per day and/or 600 to 800 meters of vertical gain, and/or distances up to 15 kilometers.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1: ARRIVAL DAY IN CHAMONIX

Upon arrival in Chamonix, a picturesque and historically rich town nestled in the Alps, settle into your comfortable hotel. Take a leisurely stroll through Chamonix's charming cobblestone streets, allowing yourself to relax before embarking on an incredible through-hike.

Day 2: LES HOUCHES - TRICOT PASS - LES CONTAMINES - MONTJOIE

Meet your guide at 9 am at the hotel for a local morning transfer to Les Houches. The Bellevue lift will take you to Bellevue, marking the starting point of your hike. Descend to the end of Bionnassay glacier, offering a stunning view from a "Nepali hanging bridge." Climb to Col de Tricot (2,120m/6,955ft) and descend to the charming hamlet of Chalets de Miage (1,560m/5,118ft). After a rest, ascend to Chalets du Truc (1,720m/5,643ft) and conclude the day's hike by descending to the village of Les Contamines-Montjoie for an overnight stay.

Day 3: LES CONTAMINES - CROIX DU BONHOMME PASS - LES CHAPIEUX - BOURG-SAINT-MAURICE

Take a short transfer by local bus to Notre-Dame-de-la-Gorge (1,210m/3,970ft), home to a famous Baroque church. Embark on the longest day of the week, traversing an old Roman road. Ascend to Col du Bonhomme (2,329m/7,641ft) and continue to Col de la Croix-du-Bonhomme (2,433m/7,982ft), offering a breathtaking panorama of the Vanoise range. Descend through alpine meadows to the hamlet of Les Chapieux, followed by a 25' transfer to Bourg-Saint-Maurice for the night.

Day 4: BOURG-SAINT-MAURICE - LA VILLE DES GLACIERS - LA SEIGNE PASS - COURMAYEUR

After a morning transfer, commence your hike from La Ville des Glaciers (1,790m/5,872ft), passing a cheese farm. Ascend through alpine meadows to Col La Seigne (2,516m/8,255ft), marking the French-Italian border. Enjoy panoramic views of legendary summits before descending to Courmayeur (1,226m/4,022ft), the capital of the Italian Alps.

Day 5: Courmayeur - Grand Col Ferret Pass - La Fouly - Champex

Experience a shorter day with a transfer from Courmayeur to the Italian side of Val Ferret. The hike begins at the foot of the Pré-de-Bar glacier, reaching Rifugio Elena (2,052m/6,732ft). Ascend to Grand Col Ferret (2,537m/8,323ft), the Italian-Swiss border, and descend to the hamlet of Ferret (1,740m/5,708ft). Transfer to Champex village, known for its charming lake.

From Champex, hike through Swiss mountain pastures and alpine meadows, renowned for producing some of the Alps' finest cheeses. Enjoy views of the Rhône River Valley from Bovine. Optionally, embark on a longer adventure to Fenêtre d'Arpette (2,665m/8,743ft). Conclude the day in the village of Trient (1,280m/4,199ft) before transferring to Argentière in France for dinner and an overnight stay.

On the last day in the Aiguilles-Rouges range facing Mont Blanc, savor perfect views of glaciers and summits. Hike from Col des Montets (1,461m/4,793ft) to Lake des Chéserys and onward to beautiful Lake Blanc (2,352m/7,716ft). Descend to La Flégère (1,877m/6,158ft) and reach Les Praz de Chamonix via cable car. Return to Chamonix for a farewell with your guide and enjoy your last dinner in town.

Our Team: This guided trip is led by a certified mountain leader fluent in both French and English, accredited by the Union of International Mountain Leader Associations (UIMLA). With expertise in the Tour du Mont Blanc, our leader will guide groups ranging from 4 to 12 participants, ensuring an enriching experience along the trails of this captivating region. While your guide primarily communicates in English, don't worry if they occasionally switch to French; it adds to the cultural experience!

Transfers: All necessary transfers are seamlessly integrated into the tour. Examples include:

  • Day 2: Shuttle bus from Chamonix to Les Houches; Cable-car from Bellevue to Les Houches.
  • Day 3: Transfer from Les Contamines-Montjoie to Notre-Dame-de-la-Gorge; Private transfer from Les Chapieux to Bourg St Maurice.
  • Day 4: Private transfer from Bourg-St-Maurice to La Ville des Glaciers; Shuttle bus from La Visaille to Courmayeur.
  • Day 5: Shuttle bus from Courmayeur to Arnuva; Private transfer from Ferret to Champex.
  • Day 6: Private transfer from Trient to Argentière.
  • Day 7: Shuttle bus from Argentière to Col des Montets; Lift from La Flégère to Les-Praz-de-Chamonix; Shuttle bus from Les Praz-de-Chamonix to Chamonix.

Lodging: Enjoy charming accommodations in carefully selected 3 and 4-star hotels (or similar), featuring double/twin rooms with private bathrooms. Single rooms are available upon request, though subject to availability and may incur a supplement. Odd numbers of people are accommodated in triple rooms.

Meals: Our priority is to provide well-balanced meals tailored to the day's exertion, lightening your pack load. Dinners (hot and filling) and breakfasts are either prepared by accommodations or served in restaurants. The first dinner in Chamonix and the dinner on day 4 in Courmayeur are not included, offering you flexibility. Pack-lunches for lunches are prepared by your guide or the accommodation, emphasizing local products and cultural exploration. Dietary constraints can be communicated before departure.

Access: The trip begins and ends in Chamonix Mont-Blanc, with the nearest airport being Geneva International Airport. For convenience, we can arrange airport transfers upon request.

Note on Transfers: We have chosen not to include the transfer from Geneva to Chamonix (round trip) to provide maximum flexibility in your arrival and departure times, accommodating both day and night arrivals. If needed, our specialists can assist in booking this transfer for you.
