Trip Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Quito, Ecuador – Welcome & Trip Briefing

Arrive in Quito, one of South America’s most captivating high-altitude capitals and a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. Upon landing at Mariscal Sucre International Airport, you’ll be warmly welcomed by our local team and transferred to your hotel in the city.

Today is intentionally kept flexible to allow for acclimatization to Quito’s elevation (2,850m / 9,350 ft) and time to unwind after your travels. If you’re feeling up for it, take a relaxed walk through Quito’s historic center, where colonial architecture, vibrant plazas, and Andean culture come to life. You may also choose to explore local cafés or enjoy your first taste of Ecuadorian cuisine.

At 6:00 PM, meet your guide and fellow travelers for a welcome briefing, where we’ll review your upcoming Galapagos adventure, answer questions, and ensure you’re fully prepared for the days ahead.

Overnight: Swissotel Quito or similar
Meals Included: None

Day 2: Fly to the Galapagos Islands – Santa Cruz Highlands & Giant Tortoises

After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your flight from Quito to Baltra Island, one of the main gateways to the Galapagos Islands. Upon arrival, pass through Galapagos National Park controls, where your certified naturalist guide will greet you and assist with luggage before beginning your journey to Santa Cruz Island.

Travel across the island via a scenic combination of land and short ferry transfer to reach the lush highlands of Santa Cruz—a striking contrast to the arid coastal zones. Here, visit El Chato Reserve, one of the best places in the Galapagos to see giant tortoises in the wild.

Walk among these iconic creatures as they roam freely, graze on native vegetation, and cool off in mud pools. Your guide will share fascinating insights into their evolution, behavior, and the conservation efforts protecting them.

Continue exploring the highlands, home to species like Darwin’s finches, Galapagos flycatchers, and vermilion flycatchers. You’ll also venture inside ancient lava tunnels, formed by volcanic activity thousands of years ago—offering a unique glimpse into the geological origins of the islands.

Later, enjoy a relaxed visit to a local craft brewery in the highlands, where you’ll sample beers made with regional ingredients while learning about sustainable brewing practices in this fragile ecosystem. Non-alcoholic options are also available.

Arrive in Puerto Ayora, the vibrant hub of Santa Cruz Island. Spend the evening at your leisure—wander the waterfront, explore boutique shops, or dine at one of the town’s lively restaurants.

For a memorable end to your day, head to the docks after dark, where lights attract marine life such as blacktip reef sharks, rays, and tropical fish—a surprisingly magical wildlife experience right in town.

Overnight: Hotel La Isla Galapagos or similar
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch

Day 3: Santa Cruz Bay Tour & Snorkeling at Las Grietas – Transfer to Isabela Island

After breakfast, set out on a scenic bay tour from Puerto Ayora, one of the best ways to experience the coastal ecosystems of Santa Cruz Island. Navigate along turquoise waters and explore dramatic volcanic landscapes shaped by ancient lava flows.

  • Disembark for a guided walk along coastal lava trails, where you’ll observe marine iguanas, seabirds, and unique island vegetation adapted to this rugged terrain. Continue to Las Grietas—a series of crystal-clear water channels nestled between towering lava rock formations.
  • Here, enjoy a refreshing swim followed by snorkeling in the Galapagos, where you may encounter tropical fish, rays, reef sharks, and sea turtles in their natural habitat.
  • Return to Puerto Ayora for free time and lunch (not included). We’ll recommend some of the best local restaurants, many featuring fresh seafood and waterfront views, offering a true taste of the Galapagos.
  • In the afternoon, board a speedboat for your transfer to Isabela Island, the largest and one of the most untouched islands in the archipelago. Known for its wild beauty and abundant wildlife, Isabela is home to marine iguanas, flamingos, giant tortoises, and even the rare Galapagos penguin—the only penguin found north of the equator.
  • Upon arrival in Puerto Villamil, you’ll be met and transferred to your hotel. The rest of the evening is yours to relax and settle into the slower pace of island life.
  • Take a sunset walk along the beach, enjoy a laid-back dinner in town, or simply unwind as the Pacific Ocean glows with the colors of dusk—an unforgettable end to your day in the Galapagos.

Overnight: Hotel Cormorant Beach House or similar
Meals Included: Breakfast

Day 4: Isabela Island Bike Adventure, Wetlands & Tintoreras Snorkeling (White-Tip Shark Sanctuary)

After breakfast, set out on a guided biking adventure on Isabela Island, exploring one of the most diverse and wildlife-rich areas in the Galapagos Islands. This active day blends cycling, short walks, and conservation-focused stops through volcanic landscapes and coastal ecosystems.

Begin in the Isabela Wetlands, a network of lagoons, mangroves, and trails teeming with birdlife. Spot flamingos, herons, and Darwin’s finches as you ride through this vital ecosystem, while your guide explains its role in supporting the island’s biodiversity.

Continue to the historic Wall of Tears, a powerful reminder of the island’s past as a penal colony. Learn the story behind this massive structure and the human history that contrasts with the natural beauty surrounding it.

Ride onward to Playa del Amor (Love Beach), known for its dramatic black lava formations and large populations of marine iguanas, found only in the Galapagos. Watch them bask on the rocks or swim in the ocean—one of the only lizards in the world that forages underwater.

A key highlight of the morning is a visit to the Arnaldo Tupiza Tortoise Breeding Center, where conservation efforts are helping restore populations of giant Galapagos tortoises. Observe tortoises at every life stage and gain insight into the ongoing work protecting these iconic animals.

Return to Puerto Villamil for a well-earned lunch before heading out again in the afternoon.

Later, visit Las Tintoreras, a striking islet formed by jagged volcanic rock surrounded by crystal-clear waters. This area is famously known as a “white-tip reef shark sanctuary”, where sharks rest in calm, shallow channels.

Enjoy one of the best snorkeling experiences in the Galapagos, with opportunities to swim alongside sea turtles, sea lions, rays, and colorful fish. You may also spot the rare Galapagos penguin darting through the water, along with marine iguanas feeding below the surface.

Prefer to stay dry? The walking trails offer incredible viewpoints—perfect for photography, with contrasts of black lava rock, turquoise water, and abundant wildlife.

Overnight: Hotel Cormorant Beach House or similar
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch

Day 5: Sierra Negra Volcano Hike – One of the Largest Calderas in the World

Today’s highlight is an unforgettable trek to Sierra Negra Volcano, located in the highlands of Isabela Island. This is one of the most iconic hikes in the Galapagos Islands, leading to one of the largest volcanic calderas on Earth, spanning nearly 6 miles (10 km) in diameter.

The hike is approximately 10 miles (16 km) round trip and considered moderate, following a gradual trail to the rim of the caldera. Along the way, you’ll witness the stark beauty of this volcanic landscape—shaped by the powerful 2018 eruption, which left behind expansive lava fields and dramatic geological formations.

At the summit, take in sweeping panoramic views across the island, with vistas stretching toward the Pacific Ocean and, on clear days, as far as Elizabeth Bay—a remote mangrove ecosystem rich in marine life.

Keep an eye out for native wildlife along the trail, including Galapagos hawks, Darwin’s finches, and vermilion flycatchers. The contrast between the rugged terrain and the surrounding biodiversity offers a deeper appreciation of the islands’ unique ecosystems.

After returning from the highlands, enjoy a relaxed afternoon back in Puerto Villamil. Unwind on the beach, explore the town, or opt for a short walk to Concha de Perla—a calm, crystal-clear lagoon perfect for a refreshing swim or casual snorkeling.

As the day winds down, soak in a vibrant Pacific sunset—an ideal way to reflect on one of the most scenic and geologically fascinating days of your Galapagos adventure.

Overnight: Hotel Cormorant Beach House or similar
Meals Included: Breakfast, Box Lunch

Day 6: Los Tuneles Snorkeling Tour & El Finado – Marine Wildlife Encounters

Today is one of the most unforgettable experiences in the Galapagos Islands—a full-day snorkeling adventure to Los Tuneles, widely considered one of the best snorkeling sites in the Galapagos.

Formed by ancient lava flows, Los Tuneles is a surreal landscape of natural arches, tunnels, and crystal-clear lagoons. As you navigate by boat, your naturalist guide will explain how these formations were created and why they provide such a rich habitat for marine life.

On land, walk across the lava formations to spot nesting seabirds, including the iconic blue-footed booby—often seen performing their famous courtship dance.

Then, dive into the calm, protected waters for an extraordinary Galapagos snorkeling experience. This area is known for its incredible visibility and abundant wildlife, with frequent sightings of:

  • White-tip reef sharks resting beneath the lava arches
  • Sea turtles gliding through the clear water
  • Eagle rays cruising along the sandy seabed
  • Colorful reef fish darting through the tunnels
  • Playful sea lions interacting with snorkelers

After a fresh lunch served onboard, continue to El Finado, a quieter and equally rewarding snorkeling location. Once used by local fishermen, this area has evolved into a thriving marine sanctuary.

Here, you may encounter manta rays, octopus camouflaged among the rocks, vibrant starfish, and schools of tropical fish shimmering beneath the surface.

Prefer to stay dry? The views from the boat are equally spectacular—featuring dramatic volcanic formations surrounded by brilliant turquoise waters.

Back on Isabela Island, unwind with a relaxed Ecuadorian wine social hour, a perfect way to reflect on the day’s adventures and connect with fellow travelers.

In the evening, enjoy a farewell dinner at a local restaurant in Puerto Villamil—a memorable way to celebrate your time in the Galapagos.

Overnight: Hotel Cormorant Beach House or similar
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 7: Return from the Galapagos Islands to Quito

After a final breakfast in the Galapagos Islands, enjoy a relaxed morning before your transfer to General Villamil Airport on Isabela Island.

Board a scenic inter-island flight to Baltra Island, offering a final aerial perspective of the volcanic landscapes and turquoise waters that define the Galapagos.

Upon arrival at Baltra Airport, connect with your onward flight back to mainland Ecuador (approximately 2–3 hours, often routing via Guayaquil).

Arrive in Quito, where our local team will meet you and assist with your transfer to your hotel.

Settle in and enjoy a comfortable evening in Quito—whether you choose to relax at the hotel or head out for a final dinner in the city.

Overnight: Swissotel Quito or similar
Meals Included: Breakfast

Day 8: Departure from Quito – Airport Transfer & Onward Travel

After breakfast, your Galapagos adventure officially comes to an end in Quito.

At the appropriate time, our team will arrange your private transfer to Mariscal Sucre International Airport, based on your outbound flight schedule. For a smooth and stress-free departure, we recommend departing your hotel at least 3 hours prior to your international flight.

If you have extra time before your flight, consider a final stroll through Quito’s historic center or a relaxed coffee at a local café—one last opportunity to soak in the culture of Ecuador’s capital.
