Trip Itinerary

DAY 1: Caño Cristiletos (smaller Caño Cristales River)

Upon arrival at La Macarena Airport, you’ll be welcomed by our local logistics team and expert guide. From here, travel by colorful chiva bus to the Cormacarena offices for a brief environmental orientation and official park entry procedures.

After settling into your hotel, enjoy a countryside lunch before heading out on your first hike—an exciting 4-hour guided exploration to Caño Cristalitos and a stunning viewpoint overlooking the Serranía de la Macarena. This is your first taste of the region’s dramatic landscapes, crystal-clear waters, and lush vegetation.

As night falls, unwind with dinner or a cultural experience showcasing the rhythms and traditions of Colombia’s Llanos region.

*Your flight itinerary will be emailed to you about 1 week prior to your reservation.

**Please note that La Macarena is a very remote Amazon town and while comfortable, accommodations come with only the basic amenities. Most do not have hot water.

DAY 2: Caño Cristales Full Day Tour

After an early breakfast at 7:00 a.m., the adventure continues with a scenic boat ride along the river, followed by a 4x4 transfer deep into the park.

From here, you’ll hike along an assigned trail approved by environmental authorities, entering the iconic Caño Cristales National Natural Park. Spend up to 7 hours exploring this surreal landscape with your guide—walking alongside vivid red, yellow, green, and blue riverbeds, discovering natural pools, and learning about the unique aquatic plants that give the river its famous colors.

This is a full immersion day in one of South America’s most remarkable ecosystems.

*It's important to note that the specific route through the park is assigned on the morning of your trip by Cormacarena and the National Park. Although the park accommodates up to 350 people daily, the carefully planned trails ensure that you'll likely encounter no more than 20 fellow explorers, preserving the tranquility of your journey.

Day 3: Sunrise on the Guayabero River - Departure Home

Rise early for a truly unforgettable experience. Weather permitting, depart at 4:30 a.m. for a peaceful sunrise boat journey along the Guayabero River.

As the jungle awakens, keep watch for birds, primates, turtles, herons, and other wildlife that emerge at dawn. The soft light of sunrise reveals breathtaking Llanos landscapes and panoramic views from the Cortafuegos viewpoint—a perfect final moment in this wild corner of Colombia.

Enjoy a scenic breakfast before returning to La Macarena in time for your return flight.
